What is Server-Based computing?
Server-based computing is a logical, efficient evolution of today's networking environments that gives organizations a way to extend resources, simplify application deployment and administration, and lower the cost of application ownership. This type of approach is successful because all applications are deployed, managed, supported, and executed 100 percent on the server. Citrix Systems is the leader in server-based computing.
How does server-based computing work?
The server-based computing model employs three critical components. The first is a multi-user operating system, (such as Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows Server 2003) that enables multiple concurrent users to log on and run applications in separate protected sessions on a single server. The second is a highly efficient computing technology that separates the application's logic from its user interface, so only keystrokes, mouse clicks, and screen updates travel the network. As a result, application performance is bandwidth-independent and takes up much less bandwidth than running the application traditionally. The third key component, centralized application and client management, enables large computing environments to overcome the critical application deployment challenges of management, access, performance, and security.
Server-based computing lowers cost of ownership.
While there are numerous benefits of implementing a server-based computing solution, one of the most significant is a reduction in IS expenses.
- Application Deployment and Management: Application roll-outs and updates are performed on the Citrix MetaFrame server(s) - you don't have to update every client device.
- Helpdesk Support: Citrix software allows helpdesk personnel to monitor and control a users' session.
- Enhanced Performance: In many cases, especially in low-bandwidth environments, a server-based computing solution will significantly improve application performance.
- Reduced Client Hardware Requirements: In a server-based computing environment, applications can be deployed to your existing client devices as well as low-cost windows-based terminals.
CTC and Server-Based computing.
A server-based computing solution can reduce costs and solve many challenges faced by IS departments - if it is correctly implemented. CTC is committed to providing the expertise necessary to make certain our customers achieve the maximum benefits from a solution we provide. We have certified Microsoft (MCSE) and Citrix (CCEA & CCA) engineers on staff. CTC is a Microsoft Certified Partner and a Gold Member of the Citrix Solution Network (CSN.) As a result of our investment in and commitment to this technology, we provide a wide range of services - from free seminars and software evaluations to integration and support of the most complex systems.
